Day 3 - Las Vegas to LA, part 2

As I previously mentioned each time we changed a route the terrain changed requiring a quick though change process to adapt to the riding conditions. This page just has more samples of terrain changes. You'll have to look close but all sand and dirt is not the same.

GPS desert trails from Las Vegas to Los Angeles

Video - 4.6 miles until the next turnoff

15 second clip of waypoint 167

Photo - Dakar by the tire

This wasn't anything special but a good place to dismount as I could climb up on the tree and rest the bike without having to put the kickstand down in the soft sand and throw my leg over the seat.

Photo - Sand consistency

I've started becoming more obsessed with different kinds of dirt and terrain.
This trail had lightly compacted sand and gravel made of small parts.

Photo - Straight road

Sometimes the roads looked straight and long but you still needed to pay attention to see
if you were heading on the right compass bearing.

Photo - the trail becomes harder to see

Sometimes the trail becomes harder to see but in this case I decided to follow the hoofprints.

Photo - riding through the cactuses

I had to make sure that I didn't clip the cactuses with my saddlebags but otherwise rode
through this section at fairly high speed just following a compass bearing.

Photo - Fast and sandy

This was a fast and sandy section that went on for a short while until the mountains.
The road doubled back on itself so you had to pay attention not to run in circles.
