Lake Konstanz - Ferry Crossing

After Mainau Island, it appeared that there were many routes for me to make my way to the southern cities of Bavaria, and I was looking for the way with the least traffic. My travel books told me that sometimes the northern shore of Lake Konstanz were often backed up due to lack of sufficient carrying capacity so I decided to try a short ferry route to cross the lake and get on some roads with less traffic.

The morning was still hazy and the visibility on the lake was terrible. After paying the ferry fee and driving the car onto the first level we took off and I headed upstairs for a coffee and breakfast roll.

This is what happens when you give your camera to an
'innocent' bystander. Okay, the lighting was terrible due to
the haze but you get a real sense of what it was like, right?

The ferry wasn't too large and had a mix of passenger cars and trucks. It appeared that the crossing was going to be fairly quick so I headed downstairs for a look off of the bow and to take in some of the fresh air.

Everybody was relaxed having their coffee and cigarettes.
Taking the ferry is common for the locals and a part of daily life by the lake.

Unloading from the ferry, I folded the map in half again and set off east in the direction toward Bavaria. To my suprise I came across a Korean restaurant right after the ferry crossing. As I'm Korean-American I've got this one on my list for a return visit. It just goes to show that you never know what you'll come across in any country at any time.

Yum. Korean food. I was hungry but they weren't open. Too bad. Next time!

The next part of the trip was a real boring series of mid-sized towns and small highways many of which were crowded and inconveniently located for fast west-east travel (everything was mainly north-south). After slogging through this area I started to come to the famous Deutsche Alpenstrasse road leading through the mountainous area of Bavaria. Expections were rising that the quality of scenery would increase and that I would learn some roads for future motorcycling trips.
