R900RR closeups - Detailed Photos from the 2001 Barcelona Motorcycle show
Picture 1 - Engine close-up
This is one of my favorites as it shows the heavy duty tubing and heat shielding.
Picture 2 - Fuel filter and petcock (choke?)
This is on the left side of the bike showing the inline fuel filter and a petcock that I think is the choke.
Picture 3 - the carbs and carbon fiber
No nonsense carbs and carbon fiber. Everything a racing bike needs.
Picture 4 - tank welds
Extra gusseted welds underneath the tank where it is
vulnerable to come into
contact with the frame due to impact and vibration.
Notice the quick release clip and shielding on the hose below the tank.
Picture 5 - Side mounted engine start button
Hey! What's this? So like a little kid, I pressed it and the
engine started to turn over.
Apparently they didn't disconnect the battery and there is no key. This is an
engine start button
located on the subframe down near the carbs. I can only guess that its to allow
a rider to start the bike
when in an awkward position. Anybody know the real reason? Is this it?
Picture 6 - Transmission case mounting point
This is the driveshaft attachment point. Notice the
reinforcement of the welds.
HPN has been doing this for years. I think that the driveshaft is made of
titanium
or magnesium for strength and weight reduction.
Picture 7 - underneath the cylinder heads
Yet another close-up of the heat shielded oil/water hoses.
Okay, that's all folks. I hope that you enjoyed the photos that I took of the 2001 BMW R900RR. Let's hope that BMW has a bit of better luck next year and can bounce back strong.
