Reverse Pony Express - E-mails that we've received so far.

We've received many nice e-mails so far from people responding to the event, volunteering to help, etc. I've decided to post a few here for people to read. We still are looking for riders, organizers, media coverage, and pledges so please drop us me an e-mail and let me know how you can help.

Regards,

David H. Park

I'm a Postal Worker in Minneapolis and would like to lend my  whole hearted support to this ride. Postal Workers are the airheads of the communications world, and we share a "simple by choice" philosophy. I especially appreciate your focus on helping Postal Worker's survive this crisis. We have Postal Workers that are having to pay for Cipro out of their own pockets. Cipro and other antibiotics can keep you puking your guts out, and over 2,000 postal workers will probably be on antibiotics for 60 days. Some of these folks will be running out of sick leave and the Postal Service's temps receive no health insurance at all. So we have Postal Workers that will definitely need some help!

With your permission, I'd like to forward your post to a Postal Workers list I'm on. Thanks for the great idea, and hope to join you for part of the ride.

peace,

Dyna

David,

This comes at a great time.  You have a great idea.  I have already planned to ride from the bay area to Phoenix that weekend.  My brother will also be joining me for the trip. I will be more than willing to support this event.  Please get me more information ASAP

Hi David;

Let me know if I can be of any assistance out here in the wilds of Illinois.... I'm in the east central part of the state [NOT chicago]. I've already posted the url to your site at a few of the women rider message boards I frequent so you might hear from some of those folks.

And you've got the email.

Thanks!

Nancy

David,

You are an impressive young man! I was first aware of you through your Baja trip website on an F650GS/Dakar. (I also ride one.) Next I see your efforts to promote various motorcycle things and your polite responses on the Chain Gang website. I note your enthusiasm for off-road riding and your promotion of an off-road school with Jimmy Lewis. Dienu! And now this! Well David, I wish you luck and hope that the governor responds and that the ride raises lots of money. I once wrote you to say that you are my hero. Well, that goes double now.

Hey David,

I went to your site and spent almost an hour there....real eye candy.  Then I saw that part about the ride for postal workers.  I think that's a great idea.  I wish I wasn't such a short timer here; trying to finish up my projects before a December departure.  Even so, this seems such a worthy enterprise that I would like to participate in as much as I am able.  I'm thinking of flying to a stage 3 or stage 4 point and renting a cruiser to hook up with you all for one days ride.  If this were happening in the springtime, I would go the distance with you on my GS, but now, I can only get away for a couple of days.

Coincidentally, this last labor day, I followed the pony express trail from Sacramento  halfway across Nevada.  I turned north off Hwy 50 at Austin, NV and passed the ruins of a station on the way to Battle Mountain that could be a good photo op for you.  I didn't spend a whole lot of time walking around checking it out because it was 106 degrees in the shade.  There are substantial ruins of telegraph relay station right on hwy 306, and the pony express station ruins are two miles off road on a sagebrush ledge.  All of this in an area of NV that is devoid of settlement.

From there I went north almost to Idaho where I picked up Kit Carson's trail west through the Black Rock Range, turning southwest through Summit Lake Indian Res (I had tried to do this route the year before but got beat back by an August snowstorm in this 7000' pass) and then entered the Black Rock Desert from Soldier Meadows. I spent a few days in that desert where I took those photos, before following Carson's trail back into CA through Carson Pass.

Congratulations for coming up with this great idea.  I hope it's a roaring success.  Keep me updated please.

Roderick

I forwarded this to my list.(Without the phone numbers of course) If they want to be involved, we'll get back to you. Take Care.

its wonderful that you folks are doing this ride to help the postal workers. the situation is pretty bad for them right now, with each day bringing worse news.

unfortunately i wont be able to make the ride, but i hope it goes off well and is successful. i will look through the list of other moto lists i am on and forward appropriately.

You have a greast idea here David but weather from up here in Washington negates my attendance. Far too much exposuere to ice and snow to make it.

Perhaps I can donate to the cause.
