Reverse Pony Express - Ride Management & Volunteer Info
Hi to all those who have responded to this call to action! The original call for riders limited itself to 183 riders over 18 months. We are hoping for many more. This page will give basic information on people who have volunteered to help organize various regions of the country. This may involve sending e-mails, making phone calls, receiving phone calls, whatever it takes to make this a safe and successful event meeting/exceeding our charitable goals.
Please keep in mind when communicating with anybody who's information is listed here that they are volunteers! As such I am only listing their given work numbers. If you need to have extended contact with them then please e-mail them and ask them directly. I'm sure that they'll be glad to help make whatever arrangements are necessary. For the moment, I have listed lead contacts in red but that this does not mean that the other contacts are any less informed, it is just that I have had more contact with this person or that they have offered to act as a point person for their region.
In the beginning as the organization of this event unfolds, I ask everybody to cc: me on communications so that I can see what questions, problems, issues, and answers are being exchanged. I don't need to be 100% informed of what's going on and don't want to micromanage but I am the central resource and organizer for this event and as such have a certain responsibility to make it as easy for the volunteers as possible. Being in the loop as we spin up will help accomplish this.
I'm working on the route, planned stops, and planned parade routes (where many riders can join in on a safe manner). We'll be working with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation on this and they have an excellent video on leading group rides which I advise any interested motorcyclist or motorcycle club to get. Many of the practices contained in their methods will be what we follow throughout the entire ride.
Thanks again to everybody who has started to come together to make this a reality for the postal workers. I don't know how big this will get but it doesn't matter. The fact that we're going to do it, in the true spirit of Thanksgiving and in support of the Postal Workers is what matters to me the most. Hopefully, we'll be able to make a significant economic contribution to their relief fund. I know that we'll make an impact on our own lives and have a fun time doing it. After all, what could be more fun than riding a motorcycle across America like the Pony Express horseback riders of old.
Regards,
David H. Park
